Edward Charles Whitney, 90, of Allegan passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.

Mr. Whitney was born April 25, 1929, in Allegan, the son of the late Irving and Christina (Hoke) Whitney and the husband of the late Donna (Kelley) Whitney.

Edward was a machinist at Parker Hannifin, Brass Division, where he worked until his retirement.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegan for 60 years and was best known for his famous bean soup at the community lunch.  Edward was a great person to be around, and one always left with a smile after visiting with him.

Though he may not have been formally schooled in certain areas, he could fix anything that needed fixing.  He just had a special knack for making things work.  In his 90 years here on this earth, so many were blessed to have him as part of their family and others were just blessed to have known him.  He leaves a void in their lives that will never be filled.

Edward is survived by his five children, Kathy (Mike) Harrington, Lyle Whitney, Candy (Bob) Miller, Denise (Mike) Curtis and Sally (Bill) Ruga; seven grandchildren, Meagan (Chad) Weaver, Shane Harrington, Nathan (Megan) Miller, Mellissa (Chris) Hodge, Joshua Curtis, Emma Ruga, and Evan Ruga; two great-grandchildren, Haddie and Miller Hodge; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his two siblings, Gloria Gates and Rudy Whitney.

Friends may meet with the family at the First Presbyterian Church of Allegan on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to noon, at which time the Funeral Service will begin, the Rev. Kathy Nealand officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Edward’s name to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010; or First Presbyterian Church, 200 Cutler St., Allegan, MI 49010.

Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan, Michigan.
