Mary Louise Tiefenthal, 87

Mary Louise Tiefenthal, 87, of Manistee died at the Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital on Thursday, April 12, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1931, in Grand Rapids, daughter of the late Homer and Winifred (Dendel) VandeBunte. Mary married Duane B. Tiefenthal on Nov. 28, 1953, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan. Duane preceded her in death on Aug.3, 1978.

Mary retired from the Manistee County Medical Care Facility after many years of service. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish (Guardian Angels Catholic Church) of Manistee and served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister.

Mary is survived by her children and their spouses; Catherine Tiefenthal, Jeffery Tiefenthal, Sherrie and Larry Urban, David and Brenda Tiefenthal, Mark and Nancy Tiefenthal, Scott and Debbie Tiefenthal and Janet Milarch; her grandchildren, Ben (Anne) Urban, Anna Urban, Nathan Urban, Jackie (Josh) Wissner, Jordan Tiefenthal, Andy (Danielle) Tiefenthal, Ryan Tiefenthal, Ashley Tiefenthal, Duane (Gabby) Tiefenthal and Samantha Tiefenthal; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Dylan Wissner and Tripp Tiefenthal; her sister Elizabeth Rutgers; her half-brother and sister in-law, Larry and Alice Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Duane; her parents, Homer and Winifred VandeBunte; her step-father Robert Gibson; her son in-law Thomas Milarch; and her grandson Matt Urban.

Cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning, one hour prior to the funeral mass. A funeral luncheon for family and friends will follow the mass and be at the Saint Joseph Parish Center in Manistee.

Those wishing to remember Mary are asked to consider a donation in her name to the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and will be available at the church on Saturday morning.
