Our family became a lot smaller on April 26, 2018, when we lost Donna Marcy Peel. Donna was a very large presence in the life of the Saugatuck Douglas community and her family.

She was born Sept. 6, 1949, the first of four children. She moved to Saugatuck in the late seventies and became an integral part of the community, working at the Sewer and Water, City of Saugatuck, and most recently as the owner of the Waypoint restaurant in early 2008.

The Waypoint became a local icon where people were comfortable coming alone because there was always room at the community table. Patrons quickly became friends. Donna loved people. She loved talking with them. Most of all she loved helping them.

The cliché “generous to a fault” was the only way she knew to live her life. Donna loved horses and animals of all types. She loved fishing with Mike Peel, the love of her life whom she married Oct. 02, 2001.

Unfortunately, Donna was preceded in death by her sister Christine Aalderink in 1990; as well as her father Roger Marcy in 2015; and her husband Michael Peel in 2016.

Donna is survived by her two sons, John and Ryan (Amanda) Sullivan; her mother Pat Marcy; her brothers, Steve (Brenda) and Roger (Laurie) Marcy; two cousins, four nieces, one nephew and her three step-children.

Donna loved family above all else. She embraced Mike’s children as though they were her own and stayed in contact with them after he passed. The greatest joys of her life were her four grandchildren whom she loved way beyond the moon and back.

A celebration of Donna’s life is being planned and will be at a later date.

Chappell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. An online registry can be found at www.chappellfuneralhome.com
