Ronald (Ron) Van Wieren, 79, of Saugatuck, passed away Dec. 24, 2016, after a brave battle with cancer. Ron was born to Fred and Agnes Van Wieren on Nov. 10, 1937, and grew up in several small communities around the country.
Ron married Betty (Butler) Van Wieren on June 10, 1967, and was the father of twins born in 1972. Ron and Betty enjoyed a long and happy marriage surrounded by family and friends.
Ron loved the Upper Peninsula and after he retired from Haworth, the couple traveled there often to enjoy the peace and beauty of Upper Michigan. Ron found joy in the crossing of the Mackinac Bridge, and mentioned the fresh air in every crossing.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Van Wieren; daughter Lorene (Erik) Van Wieren of Manton; son Ronald Van Wieren Jr. of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Ingrid, Sigrid and Agnes Johnson of Manton and Branden Van Wieren of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Fritz (Carolyn) Van Wieren of Oklahoma and Vance (April) Van Wieren of Fennville; mother-in-law Phyllis Rastall of Saugatuck; and sisters-in-law, Beverly (Roger) Stedman of Howard City, Rita Rastall of Douglas and Renie (Richard) Lechler of Fennville.
Many surviving nieces, nephews and cousins will remember Ron as a loving, caring man who had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed.
Donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, who made the last days comfortable and calm for the Van Wieren family.
A celebration of Ron's life will be announced at a later date.
