Garrit H. Vander Veen, 87

Garrit H. Vander Veen, 87, of Kalamazoo passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, in Kalamazoo. He was born Sept. 20, 1928, at home in Alamo Township to Fred and Katrina (Nightingale) Vander Veen.
Garrit was a graduate of Central High School in 1946. On June 25, 1948, at Twin Lakes Reformed Church he married Winona Smith. With Winona by his side Garrit had owned and operated Vander Veen Brothers and Suburban Tank Company from 1954 until his retirement in 2003.
In the 1980s, they bought his in-law's centennial farm which he enjoyed working for several years. Following his retirement they opened and ran a storage building business at the farm.  
In his spare time he enjoyed traveling and flying and had his own plane.
Surviving are their children, Cindy Vander Veen (Hall) Taylor of Illinois, Rick (Cheryl) Vander Veen of Galesburg and Victoria (Scott) Williquette of Alamo Township; son-in-law John (Terry) Vander Ploeg of Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Andy) Brown, Garrit (Nicholl) Taylor, Alethia (Greg) Kenworthy, Scott Vander Ploeg, Laura Taylor, Catherine (Ayojide) Akinrinmade, Tom Vander Ploeg and Scott Matthew (Johanna) Williquette; and two great-grandchildren, Cormac Taylor and Asa Akinrinmade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Winona in 2014; daughter Lani Vander Ploeg in 2006; one sister and two brothers.
Friends may meet with Garrit's family on Monday, April 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. A private family burial will be at Alamo Center Cemetery.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Bible Church in Kalamazoo with Pastors David Ives and Scott Williquette officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Garrit may be made to Oak Grove Bible Church.

William Edsel Healy, 73, of Allegan passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at his home in Allegan. He was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Windsor, Canada, the son of Leon M. and Theda C. (Barett) Healy.  
William loved his family and was a dedicated employee at Lear Corporation in Holland for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Allegan Eagles.  
In his spare time, William enjoyed playing music, coin collecting or just being outside. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren.  
William is survived by his children, Melissa Wells and Carol Henrickson, Rusty Wells and Kelli Steinman, Jeff and Tracy Wells, Amy Wells and John Hastings; seven grandchildren, Cora and Darin Edwards, Andrew, Elijah, Josh, Karlie, Austin and Chelsea; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Darin, Emma and Holly; two brothers, Allen Healy and Richard Healy; two sisters, Mary Pittman and Shirley; and many nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his wife Barb; two brothers, Jack Healy and Jim Healy; and two sisters, Patricia and Dolores.  
A gathering was Saturday, April 23, at the Allegan Eagles, 110 Chestnut St.

Lucille E. Kiss, 82

Lucille E. Kiss, 82, of Fennville passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016, at Golden Orchards Assisted Living Facility. Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Fennville, she was the daughter of Louis and Clausia (Lappinga) Kluck.
Lucille was a lifelong resident of Fennville, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family. She and her husband owned and operated John's Auto Service in Fennville for many years.
Lucille was active in the community as a member of the Sunshine Club and also St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas. She worked as an election clerk for Manlius Township. In her free time, Lucille enjoyed staying active by gardening, canning, and sewing. She also was the pitcher for her softball team and bowled on a women's league as well.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one great-grandson and her sister Clara Kollar.
Surviving is her husband of 62 years, John H. Kiss of Fennville; children, Mary and Gary McCracken, John and Lisa Kiss, Karen Knight and Kirk Thompson, Pat and Jerry Onken, Jean and Rondell Bushee and Helen and Rod Steanburg, all of Fennville, Charles and Virginia Kiss of Colorado, Thomas and Paula Kiss, Lou Ann and Brad Fries and Joseph and Cindi Kiss, also of Fennville; 26 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Marjorie Marr, Katherine Jackson, and Helen and Skip Bale.
Visitation will be Monday, April 25, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 3 p.m. at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St., Fennville. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Stanley Witek officiating. Lucille will be laid to rest in Fennville Cemetery.

Margaret H. Danes, 69

Margaret H. Danes, 69, of Allegan passed away Saturday, April 23, in Holland Hospital. Margaret was born May 15, 1946, in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Irene Follingstad, and had lived the majority of her life in the Allegan area.
Margaret was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved to take care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, swimming, fishing, being outside and loved playing cards and bingo.
Surviving are her husband, John Dee Danes Sr. whom she married Feb. 3, 1968; five children, Julie Thomson of Gobles, Jackie (Nick Parsons) Emmons of Allegan, Jennifer (Danny) Whaley of Allegan, Jack (Sarah) Danes of Gobles and John Danes Jr. of Allegan; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; five sisters; a brother; a special sister-in-law, Punkin; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will meet friends on Wednesday, April 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gobles Chapel, D.L. Miller Funeral Home, 208 W. Main St., Gobles.
According to her wishes, cremation will follow the visitation and a memorial service will be at a later date.
The family suggests donations be made to Holland Hospital, Fund Development Program, 602 Michigan Ave.; Holland, MI 49423; to assist others in paying for medical bills.

Hollis Irvan Halstead, 92, of Holland passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at American House of Holland.
Hollis was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.  He was a member of Christ Memorial Church in Holland, the VFW and the DAV.  Hollis retired from Baker Furniture of Holland.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Annagene Halstead in 2014; parents, Charles and Elizabeth; sisters, Lula VanderVere, Clara Sniff and Violet Halstead; and brother Lloyd Halstead.
Surviving are his children, Karen and Les Tucker of Holland, Nancy Snyder of Zeeland and Tim and Sherri Halstead of Hamilton; grandchildren, Robyn (Taiyoh) Afrik, Cody (Sarah) Tucker, Matt Snyder, Holly Snyder, Courtney Halstead and Trista (Mike) Kimber; great-grandchildren, Tabahn, Ayisha and Tai Afrik and Karly and Rylee Kimber; sister Wilma Halstead of Holland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Liz Knoll of Reading and Marge and Paul Streur of Holland.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road, in Holland. Burial will be at Graafschap Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Hospice.

Wayne R. Cheyne, 80

Wayne R. Cheyne, 80, of Shelbyville died April 25, 2016, at home. He was born Aug 27, 1935, in Byron Center, the son of Russell Cheyne and Janet Steffes.
Wayne was a United States Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific from 1954 to 1958. He was a member of the American Legion Dorr Post 127 for 41 years and a member of the Dorr Moose Lodge 2541 for nine years.
Wayne enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. He worked in many positions throughout his lifetime, retiring after 15 years at West Michigan Auto Auction.
Surviving are his partner in life, Laura Seelye; four children, Kathryn (Troy), Lisa, Richard and Russell (Amber); 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Frank) Sigala and Cynthia (Rick) Brower; lifelong friend Duane Keller of Newago; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas DeBoer.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
A memorial will be Saturday, May 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion, 4310 18th St., Dorr.
Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the American Legion Dorr Post 127.

Anna-Mae E. Anderson, 88, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at Ely Manor Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter to Harry A. Easley and Laura B. (Redenius) Easley.
Ann was a retired hair stylist and past business owner of Hubbard Street Hair Company.
Surviving is a son, Don Anderson of Schoolcraft.  
A private family service will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery, in Allegan.

L.V. "Pete," Baugus, 82

L.V. "Pete," Baugus, 82, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Ely Manor in Allegan. Mr. Baugus was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Savannah, Tenn., the son of the late William and Lettie (Smith) Baugus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
L.V., known to most as Pete, grew up in the South where he worked as a farm hand until he moved his family to Michigan in 1973. After settling in Pullman, Pete took a position with Pullman Industries where he worked until his retirement.  
One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He would spend hours on the lake to bring home fresh fish for dinner. Gathering with the family and enjoying his catch of the day was a wonderful time for all.
The other passion in Pete's life was his grandchildren. Spending time with them or just hearing about their lives brought a smile to his face.  
Pete is survived by his wife Pauline; his children, Tina Plasterer, Gary Baugus and Debra Riggs; three grandchildren, Kelly Pond, Brandon Plasterer and Tasha Plasterer; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Berthie.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James L., Willard, Jack, and LC (Shorty); and two sisters, Laureen and Lucille.
A military graveside service will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta on Wednesday, May 4, at 2:30 p.m.

Jane Alice "Janie" Latham, 55, of Eaton Rapids passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.
A memorial service will be at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, Mich., on Thursday, May 12, at 12 p.m. with Mr. Henry Kubin Sr. officiating. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis, Mich.
Jane was born in Alma on June 16, 1960, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Foley) Billig. She resided most of her life in Eaton Rapids.  
Jane married Ray Latham on Dec. 7, 1985, in Holland. Caring for her family was the most important part of Jane's life. She loved to garden and care for her pets.
Jane was an accomplished florist and musician. She was described as a kind and gentle soul and often said "you should never judge an individual by a single act."
She is survived by her husband Ray Latham of Eaton Rapids, sons, Daniel and Kristina Latham of Holt and Joe Latham of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Peggy Billig and Gary Tuma of Lansing, Winnie and George Kubin of St. Louis, Mich., and Linda and Jeff Allen of Midland brothers Patrick Billig of White Cloud; Joe and Donna Billig of Mason, and Jim and Julie Billig of Windermere, Fla.; father and mother-in-law, Ron and Ella Welling-ton of Grand Junction; brothers-in-law, Robert Latham of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Larry and Sue Latham of Lowell; sisters-in-law, Deb  Wellington of Houston, Texas and Lynda and Danny Stejskal of South Haven.  Jane is also survived by many nieces and nephews with her son, Dan and Kristina expecting her first grandchild in the fall.

Virginia Pitsenbarger Agne, 88

Virginia Pitsenbarger Agne, 88, of Plainwell passed away May 2, 2016. Virginia was born to Esther Smoot Pitsenbarger and Clarence Edward Pitsenbarger on April 15, 1928. She grew up in Versailles, Ohio, until she married the love of her life, Donald Augustus Agne, on June 6, 1948.
Virginia was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Plainwell and became deeply involved with the music ministry and taught music for the Sunday school children. She became an integral part of the Plainwell Community School district when she started teaching third grade. The school district then asked her to be the elementary school music teacher, which she did, lovingly, for many years.
Virginia enjoyed oil painting, quilting and she loved to garden. When someone was new to church or sick and needed assistance, she found time to make a meal, bake a cake, a pie or maybe some homemade bread and delivered it to them personally.
She humbly proved herself as an artist, musician and a Christian in many ways every day. Everyone who knew her experienced her kind smile, sunny personality and her generous, loving spirit.
Her family and friends can be happy for her now, knowing that she is free of this world's discomforts and worries. Virginia is finally reunited with her best friend and husband, Don, whom she loved with all of her heart, mind and soul, and also is reunited with her dear mother who was such an inspiration and friend to her.
Virginia is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald Augustus Agne and her parents, Clarence Pitsenbarger and Esther Smoot Pitsenbarger
She is survived by her sister Gail Brandewie; her children, Gail A. Toda (Shig), Donald E. Agne (Naomi), Daniel E. Agne (Deb) and Elizabeth E. Agne (Jim McKinley); her grandchildren, Angela Jobe, Allison Maddox, Erinn Agne, Robin Kessler, Lauren Zuckerberg, Ian Agne, Emily McKittrick, Camille Woodruff and Sen Toda; and her great-grandchildren, Emma Maddox, Cooper Maddox, Jackson Jobe, Thomas McKittrick and Joseph McKittrick.
A memorial service is being planned for Aug. 5, in Plainwell.

Betty Lindsley, 83

Betty Lindsley, 83, of Allegan passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Lindsley was born May 26, 1932, in Allegan, the daughter of the late Carl and Catherine (Coffey) Wilkes. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1949, and was married to Doyle F. Lindsley in 1952.
Betty spent her early years as a seamstress into the 1970s, and then in the mid 70s went to work for Delano Service in Allegan. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan.
Betty loved making knitted hats, scarves and blankets for her family and friends. She also enjoyed getting time to read and losing herself in a good book, playing bingo and gardening.   
Betty's love for her children, grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews went deep!  
Betty is survived by her children, Thomas and Cynthia Lindsley of Allegan, John and Jennifer Lindsley of Plano, Texas, and Anne Lindsley of Ludington; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Beckers of Allegan and Vera Quinn of Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle F. Lindsley in 2014; brothers, Fred and Chuck Wilkes; and sisters, Roberta Krouse, Marion Goodwill and Cora-Lorraine Wilkes.
There are two organizations that need to be thanked for the love and care they gave to Betty; Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan and Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan.  They were both outstanding in the care, love and compassion they provided.

Private interment took place at Blackman Cemetery, Trowbridge Township.

Gloria M. Gates, 86, of Allegan passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Allegan Country Estates in Allegan. Mrs. Gates was born April 2, 1927, in Allegan, the daughter of the late Irvin and Christina (Hoke) Whitney.
Gloria was a Class of 1945 Allegan High School graduate. She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Allegan. She owned and operated the Graydale Restaurant (currently the Village Inn) for many years.
Gloria was very compassionate and enjoyed helping other people. She lived at Dumont Lake for many years and truly loved to fish and spend time outdoors. She also enjoyed dancing-turn the music on and she was ready to dance.
Gloria is survived by her children, Tom and Susan Pierce and Kristy Berkin; four grandchildren, Shannon, Sam, Zechariah and Aaron; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Keelin and Henry Graydon; two brothers, Ed and Rudy Whitney; and many nieces and nephews.  
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Graydon Pierce, Jack Carey and Russell Gates.
Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.  Memorial services will be Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Allegan, 200 Cutler St. Pastors Nelson Lumm and Murray Cooper will officiate. Private interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Eleanor Helen Hooker, 93, of Allegan, passed away March 6, 2016. She was born March 11, 1923, to Daniel and Helen (Goyns) Stanchik in Birmingham, Mich.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hooker in 1996, and her step-daughter Jan Welling in 2015.  
She is survived by a brother Albert of Grand Island, Fla.; her grandchildren, Amy Visuri of Allegan and William (Kristen) Welling of Paw Paw; and her four great-grandchildren Allison, Kendall, Connor and Taryn.
Private services will be at a later date with burial taking place at Newaygo Cemetery.

Barbara Ruth Roberts, 92

Barbara Ruth Roberts, 92, of Brighton, passed away peacefully at her home early Monday morning, May 16, 2016. Born on Aug. 5, 1923 in Allegan, she was the daughter of Herbert and Josephine (McCormick) Whitcomb.  
An Allegan High School graduate and Brighton area resident since 1968, Barbara was a fabulous tennis player and wicked ping pong player who also enjoyed golf and bowling.  Most of all, she was a great mother and her family was her world.  
She was the beloved wife of John H. Roberts, whom she married on May 18, 1941 in Holland. They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past Wednesday.  
Barbara was the loving mother of David (Carol) Roberts of Brighton, Barbara (Don) Baruzzini of Howell, Jonathon Roberts of Brighton, Joseph (Louise) Roberts of Springhill, Fla., and William (Lori) Roberts of Howell. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.  
Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Whitcomb, Kathryn Wright, William Whitcomb, Robert Whitcomb and Margaret Parker.  
A funeral service in celebration of Barbara's life will be Saturday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home in Howell (517-546-2800). Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Brighton Township.

Ardeth "Ardie" Brenner (Heckman), 92, of Kalamazoo passed away on May 17, 2016, with her family by her side.
Ardie was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Dunningville. She was the daughter of the late William and Lillian (Mann) Ashley.
Ardie graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1941. She worked for Shakespeare Rod and Reel and Hillside Junior High School in Kalamazoo. She also worked at Perrigo in Allegan.
Ardie volunteered for Kalamazoo Human Society and Coover Senior Center. She was a member of the Widow and Widowers in Kalamazoo and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  She enjoyed going out to dinner with her friends for fun and laughs and visiting with them at her home.  
Ardie is survived by her children, Roger (Madalen) Brenner, Martin Heckman, Marlene Boyle, Deb (Robert) Newbre, Pam (Jim) Sikkema and Pete (Jody) Heckman; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews, along with mom's cat, Pumpkin, whom she adored.
Ardie was preceded in death by her two husbands, Martin Heckman and Marvin Brenner; her infant son Michael Wayne Heckman; her brother David Ashley; and her sister Cecile Jacobsen.  
Friends may meet with the family on Friday, May 20, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Pastor Patrick White will officiate. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in Heath Township.

Jean E. Prestage, 92

Jean E. Prestage, 92, of Allegan passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Allegan County Medical Care Community. Mrs. Prestage was born Sept. 13, 1923, the daughter of the late Glenn D. and Fannie H. (VandeBunte) Gorden.  
Jean was a Class of 1941 graduate from Allegan High School and went on to attend college in Grand Rapids. She was a devoted wife, marrying Doug Prestage on Feb. 21, 1946, and raising a family together until his passing in 2013.  
Together, Jean and Doug operated a blueberry farm in Cheshire Township for more than 40 years. Jean loved being outdoors and enjoyed the blueberry farm. She spent time growing beautiful flowers around their home and loved being with her dogs.  
Jean's father was one of the previous owners of Gorden Funeral Residence and she loved to reminisce about her days living at the funeral home and sharing her memories with her family and friends.  
Jean was a loving and wonderful lady who brought joy and happiness to others. She was fortunate to live a full life and was loved by so many.
Jean is survived by her children, Glenn and Nancy Prestage, Lynn Ann Kehoe, Marcia Johnson and James and Melanie Prestage; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Phillip "Doug" Prestage and sister Ruth Merrill.
Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, May 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the funeral service will be Thursday, May 26, at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Hope Elizabeth Klinkers, 19, of Hamilton passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, May 22, 2016.
Hope was a member of Hamilton Christian Reformed Church and a 2014 graduate of Hamilton High School. Hope was currently an honor roll student at Davenport College and was working at Pilot Truck Stop and Menard's in Holland.
Hope is survived by her parents, Kurt and Tami Klinkers of Hamilton; sister, Nicole and Garett Oetman of Hamilton; brother Colin Klinkers of Hamilton; paternal grandparents, Gary and Nancy Klinkers of Allegan; maternal grandparents, Sandy and Chester Prins of Holland; and nephew Braden Oetman of Hamilton.
Visiting hours are planned on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, May 26, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland. Funeral services will be Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Reformed Church, 3554 M-40, Hamilton. Rev. Jacob Porter will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Hamilton.

Lucinda Ann Knowlton, 60, of Allegan passed away May 23, 2016. She was born May 12, 1956, the daughter of Robert and Patricia Knowlton of Allegan.
Lucinda was employed at Blue Moon Adult Foster Care.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving are her son Travis Caudill; mother Patricia Knowlton; brother Bob and Norma Knowlton; sister Patti and Steve Counterman; aunt Mary Stacy; and three nephews and nieces, Michael and Hillary Counterman, Stacy Harris, and Justin and Chad Counterman.

Barbara June Reimink (Witteveen), 77, of Hamilton went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday May 24, 2016.
Barb was a loving and supportive wife and mother who adored her grandchildren. She was a member of Messiah's Independent Reformed Church.
Barb is survived by Donald Reimink, her husband of more than 60 years; her children, Dick and Leslie Reimink of Hudsonville, Roger and Cathy Reimink of Caledonia, Diane Reimink of Burnips, Dona and Tim Johnson of Irons, and Bob and Jodie Reimink of Hamilton; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Rosendall, Sarah and Joshua Pasikowski, Amanda and James Doran, Jessica and Ian Bontrager, Danielle Johnson, Kellie Johnson, Lucas Reimink, Sydney Reimink and Avery Reimink.  
Barb was preceded in death by her brother Ken Witteveen.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home in Hamilton, 3616 Lincoln Road, Hamilton, MI 49419. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Ken Anema will be on Friday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Messiah Independent Reformed Church, 4528 48th St. Holland, MI 49423.

Catherine M. McManus, 58

Catherine M. McManus, 58, of Allegan passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Wings Hospice Home in Allegan. Born Nov. 18, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Timothy M. McManus, M.D. and Marjorie McManus.
Cathy graduated from Paw Paw High School, Class of 1975, and went on to earn a BA from Western Michigan University, continuing her education with two masters' degrees in special education administration and school psychology. She worked as a school psychologist for the ISD from 1984 to 1999; then worked for the Allegan Public School District until 2015 for a total of 31 years.
Cathy's passions were Boy Scouts of America in which she was very active and she loved to travel, taking her kids on many adventures.
She is survived by her children, Anna and Nick McManus of Allegan; her mother Marjorie McManus of Haslett, brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Terrilyn McManus of Ann Arbor and Terrence and Patti McManus of Haslett; four nieces, Leah, Tracy, Keelin and Kira McManus; three stepsisters and stepbrother, Cindy Brisky Broadway and Terri, Cathy and Mike Brisky.
Cathy expressed her wish for cremation and to have her ashes scattered in the ocean, which will be granted by her brother who makes frequent trips to visit a daughter in the State of Washington. At her request there will be no formal memorial service.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010, or to one's favorite charity.
