Jennings Green Heilig, formerly of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 after a brief illness.  He had recently relocated from Plainwell to be near his children Deborah Heilig and Butch Heilig in Tucson, Arizona.

Jennings was born July 1, 1932 in Charlotte, NC to Roy A. “Gus” Heilig and Bettie W. Heilig.  He grew up in Charlotte and Cherry Point, NC, and graduated from Newport, NC High School in 1950.  He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and served as an IC Electrician aboard two Pacific Fleet auxiliaries, including service in Korean waters.

After his Navy service, Jennings joined General Electric as an electric motor/generator winder, eventually working up to various management positions in the industrial motor/generator repair business.  On May 23, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart Nancy (Hyder) Heilig, who preceded him in death in 2019, after 66 years of marriage.  The family eventually moved to Livonia, Michigan in 1967, and then to Plainwell in 1975.  Jennings retired in 1994, and he and Nancy at last realized their longtime dream of a house at the lake, settling on Pine Lake in Barry County.

He is survived by his children Deborah and Butch of Tucson, Arizona, and brother and sister-in-law Kay and Susan Heilig of Wadley, Georgia.

At his request, no services will be held.  The family requests any donations be made to Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan, Michigan.
