Roy Harvey O’Connell, 83, of Allegan, MI passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at Wings Home of pneumonia. Born May 5, 1937 in Allegan, he was the son of the late Joe and Amelia (Hinkle) O’Connell and was the husband of Judith (Piersma) O’Connell. Roy was a lifetime member of both the Allegan Eagles Club and the Elks Lodge. He retired from Rockwell International as an inspector after thirty-three years of employment. Roy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to go hunting and fishing as well as morel mushroom hunting. Roy enjoyed driving his truck daily looking for new favorite fishing spots. He also liked to go out and feed the birds with a beer in hand. In his younger years, Roy pitched fast pitch and played left field in blooper ball leagues and bowled with various local groups.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his children, Terri (Marty) Chapman, Nancie O’Connell and Tom (Karin Tarantino) O’Connell; siblings, Robert O’Connell, Mike (Donna) O’Connell and Patty Mackey; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Amelia; and his siblings, Jim (Lois) O’Connell, Naomi O’Connell, Linda (Larry) Lange and John Mackey.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life (open house) will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Trowbridge Township Hall from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010; or W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary (please make checks payable to MSU), Attn: Sarah Carroll, 3700 E. Gull Lake Drive, Hickory Corners, MI 49060. Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, is assisting the O’Connell family.
