Lucretia A. Smith, 83, of Allegan went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Allegan General Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born May 19, 1933, in Muskegon, the daughter of the late Con and Sarah (Ramsey) Sheridan. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1951, attended Allegan County Normal, and earned her bachelor's degree in education from Western Michigan University.
Lucretia taught school for more than 40 years, starting in a one room school house in the Allegan area and then 30 years in the Bloomingdale Public Schools. She was dedicated to her students and genuinely cared about their successes and failures.
She was a member of Christ Community Church in Allegan and a true prayer warrior. Anyone that came in contact with Lucretia could feel her warmth and caring nature. She provided an amazing example to her family of a woman and mother who loved the Lord and acted with empathy and compassion to all. Her presence in our lives will be missed.
Surviving are her four children, Kim and Kevin Harness of Allegan, her twins, Kelly and Dan Hopwood of Virginia and Kendall and Margaret Smith of Fennville, and Kraig and JoHannah Smith of Zeeland; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae O'Conner and Peggy and Carl Dostie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lucretia was preceded in death by her husband Milton Smith and her eight siblings.
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Christ Community Church, where the service will be at 11 a.m., Pastor Wally Coots officiating.
Memorial donations in Lucretia's name may be made to Christ Community Church and Dollars for Scholars. Interment will be at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township. Arrangements are being provided by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel www.gordenfuneral.com.
