Nancy A. Banks, 87, of Greenville, formerly of Plainwell, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at home under the care of her family and Spectrum Hospice.
She was born June 24, 1932, in South Haven, the daughter of Julius M. & Maria J. (Winkle) Greiffendorf.
Nancy graduated from South Haven High School and was the secretary to the principal.
Nancy married Donald W. “Bill” Banks on Sept. 20, 1952, in Gobles. Bill and Nancy owned the Banks Oil Company, where she ran the office. Nancy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Plainwell.
Upon retiring, Bill and Nancy ran a foster care home in Mt. Pleasant. Nancy enjoyed baking, canning, and sewing. She made quilts for the Methodist Community House in Grand Rapids. Nancy also made quilts and Raggedy Andy and Ann dolls for her grandchildren. She also liked to play cards with the grandchildren. Nancy also made apple pies for visitors and newcomers at the church in Greenville.
Nancy is survived by her husband Donald W. “Bill” Banks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary (Chris) Hamman of Greenville and Julia (Jeffrey) Jenkins of Plainwell; 14 grandchildren, Sister Christianna Hamman FSE of Oregon, Aaron (Dianna) Hamman of Rockford, Luke Hamman of Vietnam, Micah (Zach) Brown of Virgini, Jesse (Grace) Hamman of Gowen, Rebekah Hamman of Greenville, Esther (Willis) Bouwman of Portage, Jonathan (Christina) Jenkins of Kentucky, Peter (Bethany) Jenkins of Plainwell, Rachel (Jordan) Sheffer of South Carolina, Samuel (Greta) Jenkins of Kalamazoo, Isaac (Reina) Jenkins of Kalamazoo, Caleb Jenkins of Plainwell, and Lydia Jenkins of Plainwell; 14 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews including a special niece, Carolyn (Carl) Morehead of North Branch.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters and brothers Ruth, Mary Jane, Leona, Julius II, Walter and Alvin.
Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. on Nov. 19 at First United Methodist Church in Plainwell with the Rev. Dan Minor officiating and a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Spectrum Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Plainwell.
