Catherine D. Wilt-Burklow, 73, of Arizona died Jan. 19, 2017. She was born to Nolar and Charlie Burklow in Harrisburg, Ark., on Feb.18, 1943. Years later in 1977, she relocated to Douglas and established the restaurant that many grew to know and love, the Kalico Kitchen. Catherine resided in Douglas for the following 40 years, raising her family, building a business, and becoming a concrete part of her community.
Throughout life, she strived to be a positive stepping stone for those around her and to provide as much as possible for those that found themselves in need. Her love of travel brought her through nearly all 50 states and later landed her in Arizona, where she lived out her final days.
Catherine was proceeded in death by mother and father, Nolar and Charlie Burklow; late husband Clark Robert Wilt; along with twin brothers, Coy and Troy Burklow; and brother Lehmon Burklow.
She is survived by only son Donald Shriel; brother Jerry Wilson; nieces, Cindy Anderson and Linda Wilson; nephews, Scott Burklow, Rick Burklow, Dale Burklow, Donny Burklow, Preston Burklow and Charles Burklow; grandchildren, Alexandria Shriel, Diane DeJonge, Cody Shriel and Benjamin Shriel; along with cousins and friends that are scattered throughout the country.
Catherine was truly unique ... completely one-of-a-kind. All who knew her could certainly agree that she was a fiery, strong-willed, stubborn-headed, silver-tongued, God-fearing and God-loving woman, who never failed to be driven by anything less than wholehearted compassion and love.
Catherine will be laid to rest in Ganges at Taylor Cemetery. A celebration of her life is still to be determined at a later date.
