Jane E. (Bird) Van Dis, 95, was reunited with her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017. Jane was a long-time Saugatuck resident. She was born June 15, 1921, in Ann Arbor.
She met her husband Bert Van Dis and raised their five children in Saugatuck. She was preceded in passing by her husband and her son Michael Van Dis.
Jane is survived by her children David (Sharon) Van Dis, Marianne (Kenneth) Little, Gary Van Dis and Terry Van Dis. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Her many hobbies included sewing, writing, painting, crafts and reading. Jane was involved in the woman's club, art club, doll club, historical society, writers club, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Red Barn Theater, 28 years playing in "The Dickens Christmas," Congregational Church, played Lady Liberty in the Independence Day Parade, organized a sleep-out and slept out in a box for the Allegan County homeless, organized art/craft fairs in Saugatuck, 2006 Citizen of the Year, and owned and managed the Bird Center Resort from the l940's through the 1970's.
