Raymond G. Brenner, 87, of Shelbyville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at his home. Mr. Brenner was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Martin Township, the son of the late Gottlieb and Margaret (Barnhardt) Brenner.
Ray was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hopkins. He had been a dairy farmer in the Martin area all of his life. He also worked for NACHURS Fertilizer Company for more than 40 years.
Ray enjoyed staying active in his community by serving on the Martin School Board, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) Board and the Martin Zoning Board.
Being an avid hunter, he and his good friend Richard "Dick" Davis would spend a lot of time together hunting and traveling across the country as well as outside the United States. There was never a dull moment when Ray was around to tell of his adventures.
Raymond is survived by his children, James and Debra Brenner, Jan and Steve Johnson, Julie Spencer, Joy Brenner and Joe Henry, Ray and Sarah Brenner; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Linda and Les DeJong; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norma and three sisters, Pauline, Wilma and Evelyn.
Friends may meet with the family on Friday, Dec. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hopkins, Pastor Donald Seelhoff officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Ray's name to Wings of Hope Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland.
