Gloria M. Gates, 86, of Allegan passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Allegan Country Estates in Allegan. Mrs. Gates was born April 2, 1927, in Allegan, the daughter of the late Irvin and Christina (Hoke) Whitney.
Gloria was a Class of 1945 Allegan High School graduate. She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Allegan. She owned and operated the Graydale Restaurant (currently the Village Inn) for many years.
Gloria was very compassionate and enjoyed helping other people. She lived at Dumont Lake for many years and truly loved to fish and spend time outdoors. She also enjoyed dancing-turn the music on and she was ready to dance.
Gloria is survived by her children, Tom and Susan Pierce and Kristy Berkin; four grandchildren, Shannon, Sam, Zechariah and Aaron; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Keelin and Henry Graydon; two brothers, Ed and Rudy Whitney; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Graydon Pierce, Jack Carey and Russell Gates.
Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Memorial services will be Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Allegan, 200 Cutler St. Pastors Nelson Lumm and Murray Cooper will officiate. Private interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
