Elaine M. Chew, 82

Elaine M. Chew, 82, of Holland, passed away on Oct. 11, 2016.
Elaine was born in Kalamazoo, on Oct. 7, 1934, to Roger and Ilah (Covell) Hayward, of Vicksburg. She dedicated her life to her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jerry; her children, Scott and Sandy Chew of Bangor, Jeff and Chong Chew of Dallas, Texas, and Lisa (Chew) Wainwright of New Lenox, Ill.; five grandchildren, Rayford, Dallas, Daniel, James and Iris; and her two living sisters, Sharon (Hayward) Harding and Ann Hayward.
Elaine had two careers in health care; first, after graduating from Michigan State University as a medical technologist, and then graduating from Western Michigan University as a physician's assistant.  
Jerry and Elaine loved to travel and play golf. Throughout the years, they lived in Kalamazoo, Gull Lake, several homes along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, Chicago, Arizona, and Heidelberg, Germany.  
Elaine and Jerry are members of Community Church of Douglas.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. at Community Church of Douglas, 6780 Wiley Road, Douglas, MI 49406, with a reception following. A graveside service will be at a time to be determined.

Jean Marie Haas, 89

Jean Marie Haas, 89, of Holland, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Heartland of Holland Nursing Home. Mrs. Haas was born Feb. 12, 1927, in North Dorr, the daughter of the late Milo and Margaret (Bieber) Bartz. Jean graduated from Allegan High School, Class of 1945.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years until moving to Holland.
Surviving are her two daughters, Sue Haas and Katherine and Jim Blood; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Ann Bartz; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steve; her sister Pat Lane: brother Bob Bartz; brother-in-law Calvin; and niece Karen Lane.
Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.  Immediately following visitation, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery, the Rev. Father Ben Huynh officiating.

Sandra Lee Bartky, 81

Sandra Lee Bartky, 81, died peacefully at home in Douglas on Oct. 17, 2016, following an intestinal operation. She was born May 5, 1935.
Bartky was Professor Emerita of Philosophy and of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A renowned feminist thinker and pioneer in the development of feminist philosophy in the 1970s, her essays continue to be read and widely taught. Bartky's main research was in feminism and phenomenology. She had her Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and also studied at the Universities of Bonn and Munich in Germany, and at UCLA.
Bartky grew up in Chicago, where she spent most of her career, though in retirement she lived mostly in Douglas. In the early 1970s, she was a founder of the Gender and Women's Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Bartky was also a co-founder of the Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP) and regular participant in Socialist Feminist Philosophers Association (SOFPHIA).
Bartky's essays are collected in two important volumes-Femininity and Domination: Studies in the Phenomenology of Oppression (1990) and "Sympathy and Solidarity" and Other Essays (2002). Her papers are held at Pembroke Center for Teaching and Writing on Women at Brown University.
Bartky was honored for her teaching and was an important intellectual and political influence on those who knew her, were taught by her, and the many who read her groundbreaking work.
Friends and family will miss her deeply and her inimitable, sardonic wit.
Bartky leaves her husband Algirdas Vileisis; a brother Jeff Schwartz; and many friends throughout the United States and Europe.
Her close companion, William (Teddy) Precht, died last month.

Leone Marie Smith, 90

Leone Marie Smith, 90, of Wayland passed away Oct. 20, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack L. Smith; her brother Don; and her sister Jeanie.
Leone will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lee (Kathi) Smith, Larry (Tracy) Smith, Jackie (Mike) Perez and Kate (Ray Schmidt) Smith; her nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
Leone retired from General Motors after 30 years. She volunteered countless hours to the Wayland VFW Post 7581, the elderly in Allegan County, and to St. Stanislaus. Leone was an amazing cook and her family looked forward to her traditional Polish meals.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Oct.24, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish with Father Stephen Rodrigo presiding. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Leone may be made to the VFW Wayland Post 7581 and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Michigan.

Marie Gardiner, 91

Marie Gardiner, 91, of Allegan went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at her home.  
Mrs. Gardiner was born in Clinton Township on July 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Bert and Winnie (Bunker) VanBusKirk. She married the love of her life Earl Gardiner on March 3, 1943, and they were happily married until Earl's passing in 2007.  
Marie and Earl were blessed with two children, Doug and Linda, creating many cherished memories. The Gardiner family was one of unity, which Marie in-stilled.  She helped to build a strong family unit where love, time spent with one another and activities done together brought much laughter and joy to her family.  
Marie spent 19 years as a waitress working at Ruby's in downtown Allegan bringing a smile to everyone she encountered. She enjoyed being around people and being a part of everything.
She was a member of the Red Hatters, loved to go to the casino and enjoyed playing cards. Her activities kept her young at heart.
Marie will be missed greatly by those that are surviving; her daughter-in-law Lynn; her grandchildren, Christa and Carl Braun, Joe Gardiner and Craig Gardiner, Deb Gardiner; six great-grandchildren, Chase, Kinslea, Kailyn, Carly, Lindsey and Zach; three great-great-grandchildren, Reagan, Leo and Joe; sister-in-law Shirley VanBusKirk; and many friends that she has met along life's journey.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; son Doug; daughter Linda; great-grandson Clayton; three brothers, Claude, Leo and Chuck; and her sister Grace.
Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, Oct. 28, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Ben Huynh, celebrant. Interment will be at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township.

Robert H. Angle, 84

Robert H. Angle, 84, of Allegan passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton. Mr. Angle was born in Fanwood, New Jersey on March 24, 1932, the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Willis) Angle.  
Bob completed high school and went on to earn his master's degree from Michigan State University where he proved he was not only an academic scholar, but also a gifted baseball player, playing on the Spartans baseball team.  
After college, he accepted a position with Allegan Public Schools and taught high school biology for more than 31 years. There he was known as "Biology Bob"-a man with a great sense of humor but with little to no filter. Bob also coached AHS baseball for 20 years.
He was a man of great integrity and compassion, a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a true friend. Spending time at his cabin and fishing for trout on the East Branch of the Fox River were two of his great pastimes.
Bob is survived by his children, Bob and Marcia Angle, Steve and Misty Angle, and Patty and Brad Parliament; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Sue Angle; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta "Bobbi" and brother Raymond Angle.
Friends may meet with the family on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the memorial service will be on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m., Pastor Adam Potgezier officiating.

Mary Ann Voglewede, 88

Mary Ann Voglewede, 88, of Allegan went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at Wings Home in Allegan. Mrs. Voglewede was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of the late John L. and Helen T. (Kohrman) Schoenle.  
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years. Mary Ann gave top priority to her church and her family; she was a wonderful mother, wife and grandma, and very devoted to her God and church.  
Surviving are her four children; David and Janel, Dan and Karen, John and Lara, Anne and Tom Adams; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister Jeanne Glasper; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, and her two brothers, Richard and Donald.  
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 6 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan, the Rev. Fr. Ben Huynh, celebrant.  Interment will be at Catholic Cemetery.

Lawrence Frederick McKellips Sr., 92

Lawrence Frederick McKellips Sr., 92, passed away on Monday Oct. 24, 2016. He was born in Fennville on Feb. 14, 1924, the youngest son of David William McKellips and Carrie Vivian Morse.  
His parents; his brothers, David, Alonzo, Russell, Clyde, Claude and Edward; and his sister Adelaide predeceased him. Lawrence attended school in Michigan and Texas.
Lawrence married Vera Ernestine "Tena" Davis on Oct. 13, 1941, in Newport, Ark.  Over the years, they resided in Michigan, California and Arkansas.  
Lawrence and Tena were married almost 47 years, with Tena passing away on Aug. 22, 198l.
During their marriage they operated McKellips Ornamental Concrete as well as the McKellips Family Fireworks stand.  
Surviving are their three children, Betty Mae McKellips, Penrod (John) of Little Rock, Ark., Lawrence F. "Larry" McKellips, Jr. (Virginia) of Bigelow, Ark. and Judy Carol McKellips Fulmer Smith (Marvin) of North Little Rock. Lawrence is also survived by sister-in-law's Juanita Thresher and Dorothy Davis of Bakersfield, Calif.  In addition Lawrence is survived by his grandchildren, John McKellips, Sr. (Theresa), Sharri Briley, Scott Penrod, Lance McKellips (Elizabeth), Donnie Fulmer (Natasha) and Jeremy Smith, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his grandchildren by marriage, Donovan Briley, Deborah Swope and Keith Dooley.
On Sept. 3, 1989, Lawrence married Elli Karoline Beaumont. Elli passed away on May 27, 2009. He is survived by her children, Bo, Mary, Karoline and Suzie and their families.  
The third love of his life, Sue Watkins Webb, also preceded him in death.
Lawrence completed the Electrical Apprenticeship Program in 1951. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 295 receiving his 70-year pin in 2012. He worked as an electrician all of his life and obtained his Master's License in the late 1950s.
Lawrence opened McKellips Electric Company in 1960 and closed it in 1981. During those years he was elected treasurer and vice president of the National Electrical Contractors Association. He continued to work in the electrical trade until he retired in 1989. He was past Chairman of the Electrical Examination Board for the City of Little Rock.  
He was in Boot Camp at the Great Lakes U.S. Navy Training Station in Waukegan, Ill. during World War II. He then served as an Electricians' Mate 3rd Class in the ship repair unit in San Diego, Calif. Lawrence was ultimately stationed in the South Pacific, Admiralty Islands where he received many medals.  He was discharged on Jan. 1, 1946.  On May 5, 2012, he was recognized, along with other World War II veterans as they arrived in Washington, DC on an Honor Flight to visit the World War II Memorial in the nation's capital.
Lawrence was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 2.  He served as Master of Trinity Lodge No. 694 in 1973. Lawrence received the Pillars of Solomon Award for his outstanding service and dedication to that lodge in 2002. He was recognized in 2006 and was only the fourth person in the history of Trinity Lodge to receive the Medallion of Honor, which was established in 1921. The Medallion is worn by the honoree during his lifetime and then returned to the lodge for presentation to another 33rd degree mason for their service.
Lawrence was a member of Bendemeer Grotto and Esther Chapter No 217, Order of Eastern Star. He was a 33rd degree mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies and received his 55th year membership pin in 2016.  He was also active in the Scottish Rite Camp Guard.
Lawrence had been a 50-year member of Scimitar Shrine Temple until the Shrine and the Grand Lodge split their association. He was a past captain of their Motor Patrol, a past secretary-treasurer of the Bowler's Unit, past president of the Provost Unit, and was recognized as being Shriner of the month.
Bowling had been a hobby of Lawrence's since the early 1950s. He was the oldest league bowler at Millennium Bowl with a 505 series. He also loved the Razorbacks and ushered at home games played at War Memorial stadium for more than 35 years.  
Lawrence received his private pilot license in 1947. He still played golf for charity events. He also loved to travel.
Lawrence was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Stewards, was a member of the Prime Timers, and was past Chair of the Older Adult Council, member of the Broadcast Ministries, the Dietz Dialogue Sunday School Class and Cancer Friends.

Lynn Lindsey officiating.  
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, with honorary pallbearers being the Dietz Dialogue Sunday school class.  
Burial with Military and Masonic Honors will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.

Lucretia A. Smith, 83,

Lucretia A. Smith, 83, of Allegan went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Allegan General Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born May 19, 1933, in Muskegon, the daughter of the late Con and Sarah (Ramsey) Sheridan. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1951, attended Allegan County Normal, and earned her bachelor's degree in education from Western Michigan University.  
Lucretia taught school for more than 40 years, starting in a one room school house in the Allegan area and then 30 years in the Bloomingdale Public Schools. She was dedicated to her students and genuinely cared about their successes and failures.  
She was a member of Christ Community Church in Allegan and a true prayer warrior.  Anyone that came in contact with Lucretia could feel her warmth and caring nature. She provided an amazing example to her family of a woman and mother who loved the Lord and acted with empathy and compassion to all.  Her presence in our lives will be missed.
Surviving are her four children, Kim and Kevin Harness of Allegan, her twins, Kelly and Dan Hopwood of Virginia and Kendall and Margaret Smith of Fennville, and Kraig and JoHannah Smith of Zeeland; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae O'Conner and Peggy and Carl Dostie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  
Lucretia was preceded in death by her husband Milton Smith and her eight siblings.
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Christ Community Church, where the service will be at 11 a.m., Pastor Wally Coots officiating.

Ricardo P. Bazan, 81

Ricardo P. Bazan, 81, of Allegan passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Wings Home.  
Mr. Bazan was born July 17, 1935, in Alice, Texas, the son of Jose and Maria (Puente) Bazan. He was a veteran of the United States Army.  
Ricardo worked for more than 15 years at National Motors in South Haven and more than 11 years at Parker-Hannifin Brass Division in Otsego.  
Spending time outdoors and fishing were two of Ricardo's favorite pastimes. He loved his children and grandchildren and was truly a kind-hearted, gentle soul.  
Ricardo is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice (Bea) Bazan; his four children, Ricardo and Tina Bazan, Arnoldo Bazan, Nancy Stamm and Tony Rasmussen; six grandchildren, Rose, Aly, Mikayla, Angela, David and Daniel; his brother, Rolando and Niada Bazan; three sisters, Elida and Ricardo Escobar, Maria Schultz and Elia and Francisco Jurado; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  
He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Tony, Jose Jr., Roque, Robert and Rene.

Rodney Leggett, 66

Rodney Leggett, 66, of Allegan passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at his home. Mr. Leggett was born Oct. 20, 1950, in Allegan, the son of the late Wilbur and Mary (Weaver) Leggett.  
Rod was a Class of 1968 Allegan High School graduate and also a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for the GM plant in Kalamazoo for more than 30 years, retiring in 1999. He also worked for the Allegan County Sheriff's Department.  
Rod spent a lot of time working, but he also knew how to relax and enjoy himself. He loved watching sports and especially loved his Michigan Wolverine's. Spending time with his family and friends always meant a lot to him. He tried to make the most of each day and will be missed greatly.
Rod is survived by his wife Nan; his children, Jamie and Mary Leggett, and Jason and Jamie Leggett; five grandchildren, Brianna, Chase, Taryn, Evie and Tori; and his sister Becky Leggett.  
He was preceded in death by his sister Christine and granddaughter Allyson.
A nemorial gathering was Sunday, Oct. 30, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.  
Showing love and support to Rod's family people were asked to wear the Michigan Wolverine's blue and maze colors.

Dale A. Harrington, 61

Dale A. Harrington of Plainwell passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at the age of 61.
Dale was born on Oct. 12, 1955, in Kalamazoo. He was the son of Elver and Jean (Krohn) Harrington.
Dale graduated from Plainwell High School in 1973. On Oct. 15, 1977, he married the love of his life Deborah Curtis. For more than 45 years, Dale was a mechanic in the Kalamazoo and Plainwell areas.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years Deborah; three children, Melissa (Rich) Green of Allegan, Matthew Harrington of Plainwell and Nettie Pidgeon of Portage; five grandchildren, Jacob Agy, Nickolas Agy, Zackary Agy, Dagan Harrington and Peyton Pidgeon. He is also survived by his siblings, Karen (Earl) Stedman of Gobles and Dick (Pam) Harrington of Otsego; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elver and Jean Harrington and one brother Mike Harrington.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Life Story Funeral Home, 120 S. Woodhams, Plainwell (269-685-5881). The funeral service will be on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Geraldine May Teed, 88

Geraldine May Teed, 88, of Monterey Township passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming. Mrs. Teed was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Otsego, the daughter of the late Henry and Iva (Quick) Mollitor.  
Geraldine worked for the Brown Company in Kalamazoo before opening her own business, Quik Cut and Curl in Allegan. She was active at the Allegan County Fair and with the 4-H Association. She also loved to ride horses and was very talented at fixing anything that needed fixing.  
Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Bernadette and Jerry Lindsey; three grandchildren, Michelle and Al Martin, William Westmoreland and Robert Westmoreland; two great-grandchildren, Claude Dewey and Shelly Brown; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kayden Coates and Leo Dewey.  
Geraldine was one of six Mollitor children, Henry, Ed, Carlton, Sonja and Roy.  
She was preceded in death by her husband John B. Teed.
A graveside service will be Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Pastor David Reed officiating.

Harold L. Bessert, 77

Harold L. Bessert, 77, of Allegan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at American House Senior Living Communities in Holland. Mr. Bessert was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Fowlerville, the son of the late Ernest and Bernice Bessert.
Harold received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University and went on to earn his master's degree from Michigan State University. He dedicated more than 42 years to the Hartland Public Schools in Michigan; first teaching and later as the school district's superintendent. He had a passion for education and loved being a part of the school system and doing his best to make a difference for his students.  
Harold was a man of great character, along with compassion and concern for others.  Two of Harold's passions were cooking and gardening. He even owned and cooked at his own restaurant, The Little Finger, in Northport.  
He was a gentle soul who led a colorful life and will be missed by many.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Kimberly and John Maniaci; his grandson Luke Maniaci; his brother, Ron and Alice Bessert; and many nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandi; sister Margaret Risdon; and two brothers,  Max and George.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor Ron Bessert officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville.

Harriet 'Louise' Deppe, 77

Harriet "Louise" Deppe, 77, formerly of Allegan died on Sept. 30, 2016, in Ellenton, Fla., surrounded by her family.
Louise was born Jan. 25, 1939, in Plainwell, the daughter of Arthur and Susan Varneau. She retired from the Allegan County Sheriff's Department in 1987.
Louise enjoyed life to the fullest and cherished time with friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren.  
Surviving family members include five children, Benard (Sue) White of Allegan, Catherine Starr of St. Petersburg, Fla., Paula Wiese of Lansing, Roy Hoffman of Ellenton, Fla., and Marian (Scott) Mengel of Alamo; a brother Lee Varneau; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one nephew; and her beloved dog Daisy.  
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald; her parents; and daughter Susan Vork.  
Private family services will be at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hospice at 500 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010.

Lillie Daisy Branham, 82, of Pullman passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Wings Home in Allegan. Born Nov. 20, 1933, in Charlotte, she was the daughter of Ansil and Mable Sherman.
Lillie retired from Donnelly Mirrors in Holland after 20 years of loyal service. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church in South Haven.
Lillie is preceded in death by her daughter Janie Fike, five brothers and six sisters. Surviving is her husband William L. Branham of Pullman; daughter Patricia Winkleback of South Haven; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Wings Home, 330 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010. At Lillie's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Anna L. Irons, 100, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Gobles, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. Anna was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Wheaton, Ill., to Alfred and Louise Kaats and had resided in the Gobles area for 90 years.  
Anna graduated from Gobles High School and Maher's Business College. On Feb. 1, 1941, she married Freeman Irons.
Anna enjoyed gardening, camping and reading. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose family truly meant everything to her. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many sporting events.
Surviving are her three children, William (Linda Greene) Irons, Judy (Larry) Raab and Jill (Bill) Nash; grandchildren, Wendy (Eric) Blanton, David (Tara) Wheeler, Robert Irons, Kevin (Katie Melvin) Wheeler and Amy (Scott) Meert; great-grandchildren, Alex Blanton, Victoria Blanton, Kami (Jake) Davison, Kendra Wheeler, Abigail Wheeler, Jennifer Wheeler, Autumn Wheeler, Christianna Trutsch, Alyssa Trutsch, Jebediah Meert; great-great-grandchildren, Addyson, Kylian and Delaney Davison.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter Tammy Irons; siblings Alfred Kaats Jr. and Josephine Eastman Lukins.  
The family will meet friends on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gobles Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home (www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com), where funeral services will be on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Robinson Cemetery.

Daniel Guy Sweet, 68, of Allegan passed away on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016.
Dan was born Nov.29, 1947, in Allegan, the son of Howard Sweet and Mary June Rowe (Hale).
He served his country in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1971.
He is survived by his three children, Sara and David Harman of Allegan, Scot and Aimee Sweet of Battle Ground, Wash., and Samantha Sweet and Paul Wirth of Allegan. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and two siblings, Rodney Sweet of Gobles and June Herpst of Onaway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary June; his brother Wesley Sweet; and a special friend Margaret Gaby (Meade).
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

Donna Jean Oisten, 74

Donna Jean Oisten, 74, of Pinegrove Township went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at her home.
Mrs. Oisten was born in Allegan on Aug. 1, 1942, the daughter of the late Donald and Alberta (Stratton) Arndt. She was an Allegan High School Class of 1960 graduate. She was a member of Otsego Church of God for the past eight years and worked at Perrigo Company for more than 35 years.  
Donna was a multifaceted person. She was a true caregiver to her family and friends, along with her church family. Being a wonderful cook, she enjoyed sharing her deliciously prepared food with others. Painting beautiful pictures was also one of her favorite pastimes.
She was a genuine person who brought joy to other's lives. Even during her battle with cancer, she wouldn't hesitate to do her best to make someone else's day better. Her generous spirit will be missed deeply.
Donna is survived by her three children, Leslie and Stephen Burrow, Violet and James Parsons and Audrey and John Fuller; eight grandchildren, David, Stephen, Jacob, Gabriel, Laura, Rachel, Bradley and Benjamin; four great-grandchildren, Easton, Candace, Caleb and Jaxyn; two sisters, Bonnie and Frank Franken and Cynthia Vana.
She was preceded in death by her husband David; brother Norman Arndt; and sister Peggy Weeks.
A celebration of life service will be Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. at Otsego Church of God, Pastor Stephen Burrow officiating. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
Memorial donations may be made in Donna's name to Wings of Hope Hospice and Otsego Church of God.

Roland Frank, 69

Roland Frank, 69, of Holland passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer.
Roland was born Nov. 20, 1946, in Bavaria, Germany, the son of Johann Frank and Regina Frank (Braun). Roland immigrated to the United States in 1953, and grew up in Saugatuck. He graduated from Saugatuck High School in 1965.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Elvira; and his daughter Melissa.
Surviving are his wife Jocelyn Diamante Frank; his children, Adam (Sabrina) of Grand Haven, Joshua (Danielle) of Holland, and Angelica at home; sisters, Annelise Braun of Douglas, Elaine (Randy) Slikkers of Holland, Joan (Mitchell) Lacy of Fennville and Mildred Braun of Holland; parents-in-law, Ernesto and Rufina Diamante; and brother-in-law Aldrin of the Philippines. He is also survived by four grandchildren, four nieces, several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Roland enjoyed fishing, hunting and music.
Cremation has taken place. No funeral services are planned.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the America Legion Hall in Saugatuck.
Memorial contributions will go to a trust fund established for Angelica Frank at Chase Bank.
