Known to all as Khan, to some as “The Ambassador of Butler Stree”" and to the youth in his life a “The Pakistani Hipster, Shouket Khan passed away Oct. 11, 2020.

Even though Khan had traveled the world over, the small town feel of Saugatuck-Douglas is what made him plant his roots. He loved the morning banter with his fellow merchants, the familiar faces, and yes, even a little small town gossip.

Khan was colorful on the inside and what he wore on the outside. Many would say one of the best-dressed men they knew. He had a quiet dignity about him. A heart full of kindness and a respect for all he encountered.

He believed every interaction mattered. He easily crossed racial, religious, financial and political views and, in doing so, changed many perceptions on what it means to be Muslim.

Khan, you will be missed by many and we know you are a first-line candidate for heaven.

Shouket will be laid to rest in his family cemetery in his home country of Pakistan. Memorial arrangements are being made for a later date.

Nita Clarkson died peacefully at home on October 12 in Plainwell, Michigan. She was 87.   She was born in  Fremont, Michigan to Lela and Howard Brumm and grew up in Charlevoix and Holland.  She attended Western Michigan University where her first degree was in Home Economics and she met her husband, Duncan.  She later returned for a graduate degree in Education and worked for the University until she retired to open Brumm’s Art Gallery- in Plainwell.  She worked with that city to create their Music in the Park program.  She was an accomplished pianist and shared her talent with several churches in Ludington and Winter Haven, Florida where she and Duncan finally fully retired to enjoy life at the lake.  Here she was also able to indulge in her passion for bridge and golf.  Nita was an avid gardener and taught all of her children and grandchildren to appreciate nature and wildflowers and gardening.  Sharing was something that came naturally to this mother of five, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of seven.  All of us admired her quiet strength and her sweet nature.   The family plans a private memorial service when we can all be together again.
