William Charles “Chuck” Rewalt II, 63, of Allegan, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Borgess Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born Dec. 15, 1953, in Allegan, the son of Merle Lee and the late Sonya Rewalt.

Those who knew Chuck knew he lived life to its fullest. Anyone he met instantly became a friend. People just gravitated toward him in good times and bad. He had many interests: photography, animals, fishing, Facebook.

After 35 years, Chuck retired from Allegan County Corrections, where he was also with Search and Rescue serving in the scuba diving area.

He loved camping with friends and kayaking and was a back-roads cruising junky with Kevin. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with his family and playing on the pool league. He absolutely loved playing pranks and scaring friends and family. He loved to meet and watch people. Life will not be the same without him around, but the joy and happiness he brought to all who knew him will live on in the abundant memories.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy; their children, Austin Rewalt and Amber (Jim) Birmingham; grandsons, Blake and Samson Zimmerman; granddaughter, Joy Birmingham; his father and stepmother, Merle and Sue Rewalt; sisters, Robin Rewalt and Roxanne Fluent; stepbrother, Bill (Natalie) Cronkhite; nieces, Grace and Shelly; nephews, Andy, Steve, Remy and Brady; aunts, Virginia Marfia, Joan Bass, and Alice Rewalt; uncle, Bob (Trish) Rewalt; cousin, Kevin Eichler; and numerous other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sonya Germaine; nephew, Ivan Warren; aunt, Marcia (Doug) Hooker, Victoria (Joe) Newby, Geri (Lyle) Eichler; and uncle, Stan Rewalt.

Friends met with the family on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where there was also a Celebration of Life.

Memorial donations may be made in Chuck’s name to the Shriners Hospital (Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607) and the American Heart Association (3940 Peninsular Dr. SE # 180, Grand Rapids, MI 49546).

Don loved riding his horses, fishing, camping, long walks, spending time with his Labrador retriever, going on week-long remote hikes in Bella Coola, British Columbia and spending time with family and friends at his cottage in Saugatuck.

He also loved traveling across the country, meeting with farmers and grain elevator owners, and sharing his passion to educate the farming community in the grain merchandising process.

He rarely complained about anything, genuinely loved people and valued their friendship.  He truly exemplified Proverbs 18:24: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly; and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
