Robert Joseph Carey, 91, passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2019.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marty; his children, John, Robin, Christine, Jacqueline, Kevin, and Michael; and a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rob was a military veteran who served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked in advertising at the Leo Burnett agency in Chicago on accounts like Green Giant, Wrigley and Pabst Blue Ribbon.
After relocating to Saugatuck, he became the editor-in-chief for the West Michigan Tourist Association. He was an avid tennis and volleyball player, and a skilled photographer.
In the course of his life, he experienced almost every natural disaster known to man, including dust storms, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes, and made it through all of them.
He loved music and knew the lyrics to a surprising number of Katy Perry songs. He was extremely tolerant of his children’s tendency to bestow ridiculous nicknames upon him, and occasionally ambush him with snowball fights.
He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
