JoAnn Gallagher, 82, of Allegan went to be with her heavenly Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, while surrounded by her family at Wings Home.

Mrs. Gallagher was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Allegan, the daughter of the late Mac and Dorothy (Germain) Bailey and the wife of Harold “Ken” Gallagher.

JoAnn spent the first half of her married life at home raising her family, being involved in the school PTA and participating in many other functions within her community. She was part of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of her church circle, hospital league, Woman’s Guild and also director of Allegan Little League.

JoAnn’s family was one of the founding five families of Allegan (George Washington Bailey) and she was very proud of this fact. Her family and community meant a great deal to her and she poured much of herself into both.

After her children were older, JoAnn went on to work at the Allegan County Courthouse as a clerk for 25 years prior to her retirement.

She brought joy and love to her family and friends and some of her favorite times were spent with them, enjoying her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her absence in their life will be greatly felt but the magnitude of her generous spirit will live on in them all.

Along with her husband Ken, JoAnn is survived by her children, Jolene (Corky) Cornell, Cal (Valerie) Gallagher, Cass (Carol) Gallagher and Cam Gallagher; seven grandchildren, Jacoba Mead, Nathan Diekema, Madison Gallagher, Christopher Gallagher, Chelsi Gregory, Holly Wroblewski and Britnay Jordan; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Samantha, Jensen, Colton, Haley and Evelyn; her brother, Norman (Secrett) Bailey and her sister, Sharon (Joe) Schmitt.

As well as her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her infant brother.

Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Sunday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at Allegan United Methodist Church on Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan.

Memorial donations may be made in JoAnn’s name to Wings of Hope Hospice.
