Alice Margaret Rewalt, 94, of Allegan, passed peacefully into the loving arms of God on Feb. 4, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Paw Paw, the daughter of the late Fremont and Florence (Adams) Wright.

Alice graduated from Lawrence High School, went to CEI and on to Western Michigan University where she earned her teaching degree.

She married the love of her life, Stanley William Rewalt on Nov. 24, 1960, and together they raised their family.

Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 46 years and became a member of Christ Community Church for the last seven years.

Becoming a teacher seemed perfect for Alice since she enjoyed watching and interacting with children. She worked at a children’s home in Washington and later taught school Mattawan until her children were born. She was then a substitute teacher in Allegan for many years.

Alice enjoyed baking and was known for her wonderful coffee cakes and other baked goods. She also enjoyed her gardening. Spending time with her family and taking care of her children and great-grandchildren were her favorite pastimes though. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed.

Alive leaves behind her two children, Deb Branham and Paul Rewalt; five grandchildren, Tasha (Darron) Williams, Brandon Melching, Whitney Branham and Trent Gaylord, Brian (Cheyenne) Rewalt and Skyla Rewalt; eight great-grandchildren, Abel, Austin, Taysom, Tristen, Lillian and Zoey and Emma and Kayley Gaylord; her sister, Beulah (Paul) Shadley; her in-laws, Gene Carr, Bob (Trish) Rewalt, Merle (Sue) Rewalt, and Joan Bass; many nieces and nephews; and her cat Marshi.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley and her three sisters, Helen Carr, Donna Bowen and Naomi Carr.

Friends may meet with the family on Friday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Church in Allegan. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan.

Memorial donations may be made in Alice’s name to Christ Community Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
