Joseph John Cassetto, 95 of Allegan, passed Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Allegan General Hospital.
Mr. Cassetto was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Wilsonville, Ill., the son of the late Domenic and Lena (Residori) Cassetto. He spent the majority of his life in Plainfield, Ill. prior to retiring to Michigan.
Mr. Cassetto was a veteran of World War II and he served honorably overseas in the Air Force as an Air Transportation Technician. After the war, Mr. Cassetto attended barber school and opened Joe’s Barber Shop, which he ran for over 40 years.
On Nov. 22, 1947, Joe married his true love Helen Severson and together they raised a family of four children, three boys and a girl. They were blessed with 61 years together. Joe was a kind-hearted and gentle man with a genuine smile. His love of family and friends was always evident. He loved sports, especially baseball, hunting and fishing; all passions he shared with his family. Joe, along with Helen, were both faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church where they enjoyed time with their church family.
Joe is survived by his four children, Joseph (Kandis) Cassetto, Jr., Richard (Susanne) Cassetto, Mary Sue (James) Dawsey and David Cassetto; eight grandchildren, Joel (Merry) Cassetto, John (Stephanie) Cassetto, Julie (Chris) Morgan, Nina (Jeff) Kucej, Jill Cassetto, Scott (Sharon) Dawsey, Lesley (Dustin) Nevenzel and Lindsay Cassetto; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald Severson; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Melvin Cassetto.
Friends may meet with the family on Saturday, June 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.
