Drextel Dortch, 78, of Allegan passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Allegan County Medical Care Community in Allegan. Drextel was born Oct. 12, 1939, in Clay County, Ark., the son of the late Dorene and Clara (Lake) Dortch.
Drextel spent his life helping others and truly caring for his friends. For many years he assisted Immanuel Lutheran Church with anything that needed to be done (collecting mail, opening the church for events, cleaning). Drextel was happy to assist and the church appreciated all that he did for them.
He was one of the first residents when Grand Ravine Assisted Living opened. He spent the last four years at the nursing home where he made even more friends who will miss him.
Drextel was a special man who made an impact on the lives that he touched.
Drextel is survived by his brothers, James (Shari) Dortch and Carl (Stacia) Dortch; his sister Jeannie Robuck; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Russell Dortch and Junior Dortch; and his sister, Chris Rodriguez.
Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, May 31, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 631 Grand St., Allegan, MI 49010, where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dan Ward officiating. Inurnment be at a later date at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego Township.
Memorials may be made in Drextel’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
