Joyce L. Smith, 62, of Otsego entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at her home in Otsego. She was born Oct. 2, 1955, in Allegan, the daughter of Neil and Shirley (Townsend) Marshall.
Joyce had worked as the store manager at Sheffer’s Cheese and had operated a daycare from her home for 14 years. Joyce also worked for Allegan Community Federal Credit Union for about 20 years.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, reading, tatting doilies and other lace creations, baking and cooking. But most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was slow to complain and always willing to help and serve others. Proverbs 31: 10-31 best exemplifies Joyce’s life. She was extensively involved with the children’s ministries at both Allegan Bible Church and Merson Church.
On June 26, 1976, at Allegan Baptist Church, she married Richard Smith Jr. who survives. Also surviving are her children, Daniel (Angela) Smith, Michael (Sarah) Smith and Richard III (Colleen) Smith; Sarah Ballast, who was like a daughter to Joyce; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Noah, Andrew, Marshall, Caleb, Lucas and Olivia; siblings, Christine (Richard) Ballast, Lois (Harry) Nielsen and Amy (Mike) Staton; sister-in-law Pamela (John) LaHuis; along with seven nieces and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at Merson Church, Gobles, with Pastor Alan Carson officiating.
