Lucile Van Kovering, 88, of Borculo was called home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, after spending a life-time impacting the many people that she met during her life here on earth.
Born in Fennville, the eldest of five children of Chet and Hilda Wightman, she went on to teach 37 years at Saugatuck High School impacting the lives of many of her students through her acts of kindness, words of encouragement and her enthusiasm.
Later in life she was involved in Good Samaritan Ministries, the Ottawa County Republican and Fourth District Republican organizations.
Her love for her Lord and Savior was evident in her involvement at her church, Harlem Church, and the numerous committees and groups that she was involved in. When not involved with her church or family, Lucile could be found at Evergreen Commons participating in their exercise programs or playing cards and Mahjong.
While known for extensive involvement in the community, the love of her life was her family; her late husband Keith Van Koevering; sons, Rex and Dawn Van Koevering, Rob and Angel Sheridan, Les and Judy Tharp, and Lane and Ruth Tharp; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Doris and George Peltier, Carolyn and Jim(deceased) Gilman, Francis (deceased) and Milton Strand, Phil and Fae Wightman, Dale(deceased) and Judy Wightman; in-laws, Paul and Hazel Van Koevering and Rosie and Roger(deceased) Beekman; and her many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland, MI 49423. A Celebration of her home-going will be Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m., at Harlem Reformed Church, 6854 144th Ave. Holland, MI 49424.
